Broker arrested for cheating a family at RpMCH

RANGPUR, Aug 25, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested a broker while he was posing as a doctor and accepting money from the family of a deceased person at the Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH) morgue on Monday afternoon.

 Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police arrested broker Mehedi Hasan, 38, son of late Abu Jafar Ali of the city's Railway Colony area. 
 
Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ataur Rahman said a person named Moslem Uddin of village Gobordhan under Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram district was killed in a land dispute. 
 
His body was kept in the RpMCH morgue for autopsy. 
 
At that time, Mehedi Hasan introduced himself as a doctor, promised to conduct a quick postmortem and took Taka 8,000 from the family of the deceased person on the pretext of buying necessary materials.
 
On learning about the matter, the police immediately went to the spot and arrested him along with the money.
 
"Mehedi Hasan had been extorting money from the relatives of patients at the RpMCH for a long time. Legal action has been taken against him,” the OC said.
