7 robbery gang members arrested in Tangail

TANGAIL, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested seven members of an inter-district robbery gang involved in a house robbery by exploding firecrackers in Ghatail upazila of the district.

During the drive, DB members recovered gold ornaments, silver bars, and a mobile phone from the arrestees.

The arrested have been identified as Md Sohag Mondal, 41, Mintu ,38, Mosharraf ,37, Jasim ,33, Aminul ,36, Anwar ,38, and Moynal ,35 .

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mizanur Rahman confirmed the development at a press conference held at his office this afternoon.

He said that in the early hours of August 18, an armed robbery gang broke into the residence of Amar Banik in Chakpakutia village under Ghatail upazila. Brandishing locally-made weapons, the robbers looted cash, gold and silver ornaments, and mobile phones worth Taka 6,41,800.

Before fleeing, they exploded firecrackers to create panic, the SP added.

Following the incident, Tangail DB police launched a shadow investigation. On August 24, the first arrest was made when Sohag Mondal was detained from Safipur area of Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur district.

During interrogation, Sohag confessed to the crime and later gave a confessional statement under Section 164 in court.

Acting on intelligence derived from Sohag and other sources, the gang's ringleader Mintu was arrested from Kendua in Netrokona, while the remaining accused were held from various parts of Gazipur Metropolitan area in several drives at different times.

DB members also recovered a portion of the looted gold and silver ornaments, the SP said.
