'Nazrul will remain an inspiration for the struggle against injustice'

RANGPUR, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - Noted writers, poets and cultural personalities at a discussion here have said that National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam remains a timeless source of inspiration in the fight against injustice, oppression and inequality.

They made the observation at a programme organised by Rangpur Sahitya-Sangskriti Parishad (RSSP) on Wednesday night at the Town Hall premises in observance of the 49th death anniversary of the rebel poet.

Speakers said Nazrul inspired the nation during the 1971 Liberation War and the 2024 July Uprising, urging all to follow his ideals in building a just and progressive Bangladesh.

The programme featured recitation of Nazrul's poems, self-composed poetry, Nazrul Sangeet, and discussions on his life and works.

RSSP President Dr Nasima Akter presided over the event, while General Secretary Mamun Ur Rashid moderated.

Joint Secretary of RSSP Md Tajul Islam presented an article titled "Sawgat, Mohammadi Dondo: Prosongo Nazrul". 

Among others, Professor Mohammad Shah Alam, Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu, Mollika Sharma, Advocate Masum Hasan, poets Afzal Hossain, Hasnain Rabbi and several cultural figures participated in the programme.

Speakers called for increased inclusion of Nazrul's works in the education system and greater research into his contributions to literature, music, and humanism.
