KHAGRACHHARI, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested a man on charge of brutally killing his aunt and cousin sister in the Ramgarh Municipality area of the district today.
The arrestee has been identified as Saiful Islam, 35, a resident of East Bagantila area under the municipality.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Arefin Jewel disclosed the information at a press briefing held at his office this morning.
On August 21, Amena Khatun, 88, and her daughter Rahena Akhter, 40, were murdered at their residence allegedly by their relative Saiful Islam.
Following the incident, a murder case was filed with Ramgarh Police Station on August 22.
According to Hasan, 20, son of deceased Rahena Akhter, Saiful came to their house and demanded money. At one stage, he attacked and killed both victims with a sharp weapon.
Police said the accused attempted to destroy evidence after committing the murders.
Saiful Islam has been produced before the court and police have sought remand for further interrogation.
