CHATTOGRAM, Sept 5, 2025 (BSS) - A new four-lane road costing nearly Tk 2,000 crore is set to be constructed here in the city to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity.

The proposed road -- part of the North South-1 project of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) -- will stretch 4 kilometers, connecting Tiger Pass-Ambagan Road and Zakir Hossain Road to the Fauzdarhat-Bayezid Link Road. It will pass by the Asian Women's University and link to Ambagan Road through the Chicken Farm area in Khulshi.

Approved by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, the project now awaits funding clearance from the Ministry of Finance. The estimated cost stands at Tk 1,937.33 crore.

The CDA has identified key traffic bottlenecks in areas such as Tiger Pass, Lalkhan Bazar, GEC intersection, Sholashahar Gate No. 2, Bayezid Bostami, and Khulshi. The recent informal opening of the Faujdarhat-Bayezid Link Road has already reduced travel times across parts of the city, including a 20-minute commute from Faujdarhat to Dewanhat or Battali station.

CDA Chairman Engineer Mohammad Nurul Karim told BSS that the new road will offer an alternative route, helping commuters bypass congested zones like GEC and Sholashahar.

He said the project is a high priority in CDA's master plan and will significantly improve urban mobility, especially for residents of Khulshi, Pahartali, Akbar Shah, and Ambagan.
