Steel body bulkhead seized in Sunamganj, 4 jailed for illegal sand mining

SUNAMGANJ, Oct 13, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court here sentenced four 
individuals to two months' non-rigorous imprisonment each for illegally 
extracting sand from the Jadukata River in Tahirpur upazila of the district 
today.

The convicted individuals are: Md Abir Rahman Morshed ,31, son of late Abdul 
Majed, resident of Sohala village at Tahirpur upazila, Md Fazal Mia , 28, son 
of late Md Ful Mia, of Kamraband village, Imam Hossain , 20, son of late 
Maqbul Hossain, of Lambabad village, Md Ibrahim Khalilullah , 23, son of Md 
Amjad Ali, of Kalipur village.

The court, led by Sunamganj Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate 
Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, conducted the drive early Monday in the Laure Gar area. 
Police from the Badaghat outpost assisted in the drive.

A sand-laden steel body bulkhead, owned by Amber Ali Shipping, was seized and 
placed under Tahirpur Police Station's custody.

The drive was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Dr. 
Mohammad Ilias Mia and Tahirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Mehedi 
Hasan Manik. 

The administration said such operations will continue to protect rivers and 
the environment.
