CUMILLA (North), Sept 16, 2025 (BSS) - Cumilla district police have taken extensive security measures ahead of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Nazir Ahmed Khan disclosed the measures at a press conference held at the Police Lines auditorium this afternoon.

He said police operations will be carried out in three phases, during the preparation of the festival, throughout the celebrations and at the time of immersion.

A total of 950 police personnel will remain deployed round-the-clock in small teams across the district. Police stands will be set up at important and vulnerable puja mandaps while a Detective Branch (DB) quick response team will also remain on alert.

"To prevent rumors and propaganda, a special social media monitoring cell will remain active," the SP said, adding that along with the police, voluntary organizations will also assist in maintaining law and order.

The puja organizing committees have been instructed to form their own volunteer groups, while traffic police will be deployed around the clock to ease congestion.

This year, a total of 818 puja mandaps will be erected in 17 upazilas of Cumilla district, of which 765 idols will be immersed.

Additional Superintendents of Police Rashedul Islam and Pankaj Barua were also present at the briefing.
