RAJSHAHI, May 1, 2026 (BSS) - Three key departments of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) have been granted accreditation for six years by the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE).

The accredited departments are Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Civil Engineering (CE).

The decision was taken at a Sectoral Committee meeting held on Thursday. However, a re-evaluation will be conducted after three years, midway through the six-year accreditation period.

According to RUET sources, a total of four departments applied for accreditation this time. Although the Mechanical Engineering department completed all required procedures, it could not be considered for accreditation due to a delay in submitting the evaluation report by BAETE's observation team, and the matter was not included in the meeting agenda.

Officials expressed optimism that the Mechanical Engineering department will be considered for accreditation at the next meeting, expected within the next two to three months.

With this accreditation, the academic standards of the concerned departments have been recognized as consistent with international benchmarks. As a result, students are expected to gain greater acceptance when applying for higher education abroad, improve their prospects for scholarships, and enhance their competitiveness in multinational job markets.

In addition, regular monitoring of curricula and teaching quality is expected to ensure further improvement in overall educational standards.

The Washington Accord, an international agreement established in 1989, facilitates mutual recognition of engineering accreditation systems among member countries worldwide. Since BAETE became a full signatory in 2024, engineering programmes accredited by BAETE now receive international recognition in line with Washington Accord standards.

Consequently, opportunities for global employment and professional recognition for students of these RUET departments are expected to expand further.

RUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr S M Abdur Razzak said the achievement reflects the university's continued academic excellence and will inspire other departments in the future.
