Nutritious food, cooking pattern selection to ensure nutrition stressed

LALMONIRHAT, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS) - Experts at a seminar have stressed on selecting nutritious food cooking patterns, using minimum cooking oil and consuming necessary quantities of starch, protein and safe foods to ensure a healthy nation. 

 
They viewed this at the seminar titled "Applied Nutrition for healthy life" held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the district town on Monday.

 
Rangpur Regional Station of Bangladesh Institute of Research and Training on Applied Nutrition (BIRTAN) under the Ministry of Agriculture located at Pirganj organized the seminar.

 
Lalmonirhat Commissioner H M Rakib Haider attended the seminar as the chief guest with Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) for Lalmonirhat Krishibid Dr Md Saikhul Arefin in the chair.

 
Lalmonirhat Civil Surgeon Dr Md Abdul Hakim and District Livestock Officer Dr Md Jahangir Alam attended the seminar as special guests. 
 

Senior Scientific Officer at Rangpur Regional Station of BIRTAN at Pirganj Krishibid Dr Md Sadequl Islam presented the keynote paper in the seminar as resource person.

 
In his presentation, he provided ideas on improving the nutritional level of the people of Lalmonirhat as well as Bangladesh and discussed the work of BIRTAN on applied nutrition. 

 
Later, an open discussion on ensuring access to safe food for the population was held.

 
The speakers put emphasis on engaging collective efforts to make people aware about the necessity of using less edible oil, less fried food while cooking foods and ensuring proper intake and preservation of foods to ensure applied nutrition for good health.

 
They lauded nutrition security related awareness raising training and other activities of BIRTAN and suggested the organization to put more importance on the necessity of processing and preservation of fruits and vegetables.


Representatives from various district-level government departments and organisations, NGO executives, journalists, Imams, priests and teachers were present at the event.
