One lynched, another commits suicide after assaulting in Khulna

KHULNA, Sept 20, 2025 (BSS) - An alleged extortionist was lynched and beaten 
to death at Jamira Bazar and a local BNP leader committed suicide after being 
assaulted in Fultala area under Paikgachha upazila of the district on 
Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Alam Ali Molla, 40, son of Haider Ali Molla, 
a resident of Tolna village under Fultala upazila and Mosharraf Hossain, 44, 
a former ward-level BNP president in Paikgacha Pourasabha.

Police said businessmen of Fultala Bazar became united at around 3pm today 
and lynched Alam in the Bazar on charges of demanding extortion from Humayun 
Kabir Molla, general secretary of Jamira Bazar Banik Samity, after detaining 
him (Alam) from his residence.

They also claimed that five to six masked men equipped with local arms and 
sharp weapons went to the residence of Humayun Kabir Molla at Tolna village 
recently and demanded extortion and threatened dire consequences, saying he 
would be killed if their demand was not met.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fultala Police Station Md Zellal Hossain said, on 
information, members of law enforcement agencies went to the spot and 
recovered the body of Alam.

"The body was sent to Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) for 
autopsy,"the OC said, adding that police have started an investigation to 
unravel the matter.

Meanwhile, Mosharraf Hossain committed suicide after reportedly being 
assaulted by his rivals of the party.

He consumed poison out of anger and frustration, party sources said. 

Khulna district BNP convener Moniruzzaman Montu claimed that he had taken 
poison "due to personal mental distress".
 
Mosharraf died at around 3 pm today while undergoing treatment at Gazi 
Medical College Hospital in Khulna city. His sudden death has cast a pall of 
grief over the local BNP.
