BAGERHAT, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS) - Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, in separate drives, seized a firearm, ammunition, and a large quantity of stolen lubricant oil from Pirojpur and Mongla areas today.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the matter in a statement this afternoon.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Coast Guard and police conducted a drive in the Khetachira area under Mathbaria Police Station in Pirojpur around 6 am. During the operation, one country-made firearm and four rounds of fresh cartridges were recovered from a boat.
In a separate drive around 7 am, the Coast Guard conducted another operation in the Kathakhal area adjacent to Mongla upazila in Bagerhat. During the raid, the team seized 2,220 litres of burnt lubricant oil (Mobil), reportedly stolen from a commercial vessel. The estimated market value of the recovered oil is around Taka 20.45 lakh.
Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the miscreants managed to flee the scene during both operations.
Legal procedures are underway regarding the seized arms, ammunition, oil, and engine boat, Coast Guard officials added.
