Youth gets 17-year jail in arms case in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 22, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a youth to 17 years imprisonment in an arms case under Panchlaish Police Station in the 
port city.

The convicted accused Md. Kawser, 36, son of late Safiullah, hailed from 
Idilpur area under Lakshmipur district.

The court of First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Ismot Jahan 
announced the verdict in absence of the convict.

"The accused is absconding," she said, adding that an arrest warrant has been 
issued against him.

According to the prosecution story, acting on a tip-off, a petrol team of 
Panchlaish Thana Police detained six persons including the convicted person 
Kawser with a Rivolver and five round of bullets from Muradpur Forestgate 
rail crossing area in the city's Panchlaish thana on January 25, 2008.

On the day, police filed a case with the concerned police station under the 
Arms Act. 

On February 6, 2008, police submitted a charge-sheet against the convicted 
persons after the investigation.

A court in Chattogram framed charges on June 24, 2008 and ordered to begin 
the trial. After hearing, the court handed down the punishment today.
