KHULNA, Sept 28, 2025 (BSS) - A discussion meeting was held this afternoon at
the Khulna Deputy Commissioner's conference room to mark the International
Right to Information (RTI) Day.
This year's theme is "Ensuring the Right to Information in the Digital Age to
Protect the Environment".
Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Taufiqul Rahman
said that Bangladesh passed the Right to Information Act in 2009, which
remains unique among all national laws as it empowers citizens rather than
imposing restrictions.
"Through this law, people can seek information from government offices, which
fosters accountability. Officials must remember that providing information is
not optional but mandatory," he emphasized.
The chief guest further stressed that both government and non-government
institutions must be proactive in ensuring the Right to Information to
strengthen transparency and good governance.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Nurul Hai Mohammad Anas
presided over the meeting.
ADC (General) Bitan Kumar Mondal, General Secretary of Umesh Chandra Public
Library Professor Anwarul Kadir and Deputy Chief Information Officer of
Khulna Regional Information Office ASM Kabir addressed the event as special
guests.
Organised by the Khulna District Administration, Md Abdullah-al-Mamun, area
coordinator of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), presented a
concept paper on the RTI law.
