CHATTOGRAM, October 5, 2025 (BSS) - Journalist organizations, including the Chattogram Press Club, CMUJ, and TV Journalist Network, have demanded immediate arrest of those involved in launching attacks on journalists while they were carrying out their professional duties here.

The terrorists launched attacks on Ekhon TV Bureau Chief and Special Correspondent Hossain Ziyad and their cameraperson Md. Parvez while they were gathering news in the Loharpool area of the Jungle Salimpur in Sitakunda upazila on Sunday morning.

Both journalists sustained serious injuries in the attack, and their cameras were vandalized. Additionally, their mobile phones and wallets were stolen during the incident.

Journalist Hossain Ziyad was severely beaten and is currently receiving treatment at Chatogram Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. He sustained injuries to various parts of his body. Another journalist, Parvez, is also being treated at the same hospital.

According to Ziyad, one person died in a clash in the Jungle Salimpur area on Saturday. When they went to cover a follow-up report on the incident today, some 30 to 40 people armed with country-made weapons attacked them. The attackers used weapons and pieces of trees to assault them. Despite the attack, the journalists managed to escape, but their mobile phones, wallets, and cameras were stolen. Additionally, the miscreants took the CNG auto rickshaw that they were using.

Chattogram Medical College police outposts Sub-Inspector (SI) Alauddin Talukder reported that the two journalists were brought to the hospital from Salimpur with injuries. Journalist Hossain Ziyad is currently receiving treatment in Neurosurgery Ward No. 28 for a head injury.

Leaders of the Chattogram Press Club and the Chattogram Metropolitan Journalists Union (CMUJ) demanded arrest of the attackers within 24 hours. In a joint statement, members of the Chattogram Press Club interim committee and CMUJ expressed concern over the increasing criminal activities in the Salimpur jungle in Sitakunda.

The leaders expressed hope that local political parties would cooperate with law enforcement agencies in arresting the attackers, regardless of their party affiliation.

They emphasized that law enforcement agencies are aware of the individuals involved in such activities in the Salimpur jungle. Journalist leaders stated that they expect the police would identify and apprehend the attackers within 24 hours.

Additionally, the Chattogram TV Journalist Network organized a human chain in front of the Chattogram Press Club to protest the attack on two journalists. Arich Ahmed Shah, the organization's president, chaired the event, and CMUJ president Mohammad Shahnawaz and other journalist leaders addressed the gathering.
