NILPHAMARI, Oct 9, 2025 (BSS) - Two children drowned in the Charalkata river at Jaldhaka upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased were Hasan Ali, 8, son of Atiar Rahman of Pasaripara village under Khutamara union and his cousin Masum Hossain, 10, son of Hridoy Hossain of Manushmara village of Kachukata union in Sadar upazila. The incident took place in Battali area of Khutamara union of the upazila.

Three children were playing on the bank of the river around 1pm. At that time, suddenly Hasan and Masum fell into the river and drowned, said Khutamara UP Chairman Rakibul Islam.

Being informed, members of Jaldhaka fire brigade rushed to the spot and recovered their bodies. Officer-in-Charge of Jaldhaka Police Station Arju Mohammed Sajjad Hossain confirmed the matter.
