One killed, 10 injured in Shibchar expressway accident

MADARIPUR, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) - One person was killed and ten others were injured when a passenger bus collided with a covered van on expressway in Shibchar upazila here in the district early today.

The deceased was identified as Shamim Ahmed, the driver of the covered van.

According to Shibchar Highway Police Station, the Bhanga-bound bus from Dhaka hit the covered van on the Bhanga-bound lane of the expressway at Kutubpur area, causing the bus to lose control and mount the road divider. 

The collision left the covered van's driver dead on the spot and injured at least ten passengers traveling on the bus.

Police and locals rescued the injured and took them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibchar Highway Police Station Zahurul Islam said police rushed to the scene soon after the accident, removed the damaged vehicles, and restored normal traffic movement on the expressway.

He said detailed identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed.
