Smuggled goods worth Tk 1.74cr seized in Cumilla

CUMILLA, Oct 15, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized a huge amount of smuggled goods from Kamarkha Jorabridge frontier area under Adarsha sadar upazila last night.

A BGB team of Katakbazar Post under Bibir Bazar BOP conducted a drive in the area and seized huge smuggled goods including Indian sarees, various types of mobile phone displays and a mini covered van, said Lieutenant Colonel Mir Ali Ejaz, commander of Cumilla BGB-10 Battalion on Wednesday afternoon. 

Lt. Colonel Mir Ali Ejaz said that the BGB team regularly conducts operations to prevent smuggling and suppress cross-border crimes in the border area.

The seized goods include 901 Indian good-quality sarees and 1,497 displays of various types of mobile phones worth Taka 1,74,32,000, he said.

Lt. Col. Mir Ali Ejaz said that the Comilla Battalion is always on alert to prevent smuggling. As the BGB continues its regular patrols and intelligence activities on the border, the activities of smugglers have been largely brought under control.

He further said that the seized goods will be handed over to the customs authorities as per the rules. The BGB's operations will continue to prevent smuggling of drugs, gold, mobile phones, clothing and other Indian goods in the border areas.
