KHULNA, Oct 22, 2025 (BSS) - Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Khulna
City Corporation (KCC) Sharif Asif Rahman said that transforming waste
management into a commercial model could both ensure a cleaner urban
environment and turn it into a profitable venture.

He made the remarks as the chief guest while inaugurating a two-day workshop
titled "Strengthening Professionalism in Solid Waste Management Services of
Khulna City Corporation (KCC)" which began in a city hotel on Wednesday.

The acting CEO emphasized expanding door-to-door waste collection to
safeguard public health and called for building effective public-private
partnerships to ensure efficient waste management.

Rahman urged all concerned to apply lessons from the workshop to make Khulna
a healthier city.

Under the "Sustainable Urban Water Cycles (SUWC)" project, supported by the
Embassy of the Netherlands, KCC and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation,
which has primarily focused on improving sanitation and wastewater management
in Khulna, jointly organised the project.

The project is being implemented in four city corporations and three
municipalities across the country.

With participation from officials and staff of the KCC's Waste Management
Department, the workshop aims to assess the current state of services across
all wards, design a framework for enhancing professionalism, determine
affordable service fees, identify suitable private service providers for
household waste collection, finalize campaign plans and materials, and form
an effective waste management team.

presided over the event while Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan, Chief Revenue
Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Planning Officer Abir Ul Zabbar, Chief
