Dealer detained for hoarding TCB goods in Sunamganj

SUNAMGANJ, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court today recovered illegally hoarded 900 sacks of rice, allocated under the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) and the Food-Friendly Programme, during a drive in a shop in Jagannathpur upazila of the district.
 
A local dealer, Sohel Mia (38), was arrested and sentenced to one year in jail with a Taka 2 lakh fine in this connection. In default, he will serve an additional two months in prison. 

Acting on a tip-off, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Mohsin Uddin conducted a raid this morning at MA. Traders in Ranimganj Bazar. 

During the raid, the shop, owned by Awami League leader Shahnoor Ali, son of Ranimganj Union Awami League President Sundar Ali, was found hoarding the rice illegally.

Mohsin Uddin said Sohel Mia had been authorized to distribute rice under the Food-Friendly Programme at Rouail Bazar but instead stockpiled it at Ranimganj Bazar without permission. 

"He has confessed to the offense," the official said.
