DHAKA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS)-Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul
Islam Bulbul is keen to be patient with the captaincy of Mehidy Hasan Miraz,
saying that the allrounder has the leadership qualities, something which is
not yet reflected in the results.

"He is new in this role (captaincy). But he has the leadership qualities,
which we all know. He needs to be given time to justify his potential as
captain," Bulbul said here today while interacting with the media at the
interval of the third ODI game between Bangladesh and West Indies.

The captaincy issue of Miraz came to the fore after he led just four wins in
13 matches. Under his captaincy, Bangladesh won its first series today when
they clinched a 2-1 victory over West Indies, in a pitch, specially designed
for the spinners.

"He has the potential and I hope you will soon see him grow matured in this
role," Bulbul further said, adding that data always couldn't justify the
match situation or combination.

"Today's world is data-driven (based on numbers), of course that should be
taken into consideration," he said, while he was reminded about Miraz's stat
as a captain

"However, a lot depends on the wicket, situation, team, combination. Data
can't justify all things."

The BCB president also spoke on Test captaincy after it left vacant following
the resignation of Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Since his resignation, Bangladesh didn't play any match in this format but
they are scheduled to play two Test against Ireland in the next month.

"The policy we have taken is that we will talk to a few people. On behalf of
the board, Cricket operations will talk with the selectors and top members of
the coaching staff. They will select suitable one for the Test captaincy,"
Bulbul, also the first Test centurion of the country, remarked.

Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz are also in discussion as the Test captain
while there was talk about convincing Shanto to return to the post.

Bulbul also showed his favour in giving players enough time if he is selected
into the national team.

Citing the example of Soumya Sarkar, who hammered match-winning 91 runs today
to help Bangladesh thrash West Indies by 179 runs in third ODI and win the
series 2-1, Bulbul said, "Soumya is always a talented cricketer. I will thank
the team management for continuing with him."

"A player shouldn't be dropped after his failure in some matches. He should
be given enough time. Being consistent has helped Soumya gain confidence.'

Bangladesh might have won the series against West Indies but Mirpur pitch
again was criticized for its sluggish nature.

Discussing the Mirpur pitch specifically, Bulbul acknowledged its complexity
and inconsistency.

"We plan to work closely with specialists to identify issues and make gradual
improvements. Experiments will also be conducted by preparing pitches in
pairs using different types of soil to assess performance," he said.
