Couple arrested with 22,000 yaba pills in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Oct 24, 2025 (BSS) - Police in a drive arrested a couple with 22,000 yaba pills here in the town this morning.

The arrestees were identified as Abdul Matin (47) and his wife Shahida Begum (35), residents of village Digreer Char Paschimpara in Jamalpur sadar upazila.

Police said the couple was traveling on a passenger bus from Cox's Bazar. On information, a team from the Jamalpur Sadar Police Station raided the bus at Doripara area in the town and arrested them. Police recovered 22,000 yaba tablets worth Tk 66 lakh from their possession. The bus was also seized during the raid.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Sohel Mahmud confirmed the matter at a press briefing at Jamalpur Sadar Police Station in the afternoon. 

He said the couple was also accused of four other drug related cases.

A case was registered with Jamalpur Sadar Police station against them in this regard.
