Coast Guard seizes 17.90 cr metres of illegal fishing nets in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, Oct 25, 2025 (BSS) -- A joint operation by the Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries has seized 17.90 crore metres of illegal fishing nets (current nets) from the Muktarpur area of Munshiganj Sadar upazila.

According to a Coast Guard press release signed by Media Officer Md. Siamul Haque, the drive was conducted from 11 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday based on secret information.

During the operation, six warehouses and six illegal net-making factories were raided and illegal nets worth around Taka 626.59 crore were confiscated.

Later, the seized nets were destroyed by burning, said District Fisheries Officer Md. Golam Mehdi Hasan.
