36 goats distributed among beggars in Dinajpur

DINAJPUR, Nov 3, 2025 (BSS) - The Birampur Upazila Social Services Department has distributed 36 goats among 12 beggars in the upazila of the district.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nuzhat Tasneem attended the event as the chief guest and handed over the goats to the recipients.

Speaking at the ceremony, the UNO said the interim government has undertaken a rehabilitation project to help beggars return to a normal life. As part of this initiative, the goat distribution program has officially begun in Birampur upazila.

Md. Abdul Matin, Deputy Director of the Dinajpur District Social Services Department, said that under this project, a total of 636 goats will be distributed among 206 beggars -- three goats per person -- across 103 unions of 13 upazilas in the district. 

"The program has begun in Birampur upazila today and will be completed across all upazilas within this month," he added.

Abdul Awal, Upazila Social Service Officer, Enamul Haque Chowdhury, Upazila Youth Development Officer, Rokonuzzaman, Upazila Project Implementation Officer, Abdus Salam, Upazila Academic Supervisor, Humayun Kabir Badsha, Chairman of Binayil Union Parishad and Abdur Razzak, Chairman of Jotbani Union Parishad were present.

Expressing her gratitude, 60-year-old Jamila Bewa, one of the beneficiaries, said, "My husband died seven years ago, leaving behind three children who work as day laborers. I had no choice but to beg for survival. I am very happy to receive goats from the government. Now I hope to earn a living by rearing them."
