KHULNA, Nov 11, 2025 (BSS) - Forest officials detained five fishermen along with a trawler while they were fishing illegally in the Gatar canal of the Sundarbans on Monday afternoon.

The detainees were identified as Bayezid Hossain, Rezaul Islam, Shahidul Islam, Al Amin, and Munna - all residents of Ruhita village under Patharghata upazila in Barguna district.

Forest Ranger Md Khalilur Rahman said legal action will be taken against them for entering the reserved forest without permission and engaging in illegal fishing.

In a separate drive conducted the same day, forest officials recovered around 100 kilograms of nylon deer traps, three bottles of pesticide, and a boat loaded with ice from the Kotka sanctuary area in the eastern Sundarbans.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sharankhola Forest Station Officer and Forest Ranger Md Khalilur Rahman carried out the operations and seized the items.

However, the poachers managed to flee into the forest sensing the presence of the forest team.
