17 AL leaders, activists arrested in Lalmonirhat

LALMONIRHAT, Nov 13, 2025 (BSS) – Police have arrested 17 leaders and activists of Awami League, Jubo League, banned Chhatra League and Sramik League in a special operation in Lalmonirhat over the past two days.

Officers-in-charge (OC) of the concerned police stations confirmed the arrests on Thursday morning.

The operation was conducted in five upazilas following the fear of sabotage of  Awami League and the Awami League's sudden procession in Bhulyarhat of Kaliganj upazila of the district.

In total, 150 unidentified individuals have been named as accused in a case filed in Kaliganj upazila, and the police have confirmed that multiple cases under the Anti-Terrorism and Sabotage Act have been lodged against those arrested.

Among the detainees, four people from Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila, one from Patgram, six from Hatibandha, two from Kaliganj and four people from Aditmari upazila were arrested in the operation.

Police Superintendent (SP) of Lalmonirhat, Md. Tariqul Islam assured the public that law enforcement will continue to take strong action against those involved in any criminal activities.

“The operation will persist, and whoever the culprits are, they will be brought to justice,” he said.
