GAIBANDHA, Nov 14, 2025 (BSS) - A field demonstration in Gobindaganj showcased the strong yield performance of BRRI Dhan 103, prompting officials to encourage farmers to adopt the variety widely during the Aman season.

Speakers said BRRI Dhan 103, developed by the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), is proving highly profitable for farmers due to its strong plants and resistance to lodging even under heavy rainfall.

The demonstration and sample collection were held on the field of farmer Ziaur Rahman at Kunza Nakaihat village under Nakaihat Union on Thursday noon.

Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO) Ziaul Haque Rintu, farmer Ziaur Rahman and local resident Sayem Miah addressed the programme, among others.

After harvesting the crop in presence of local farmers and officials, it was found that around 20 maunds of paddy were produced from a bigha of land. The yield impressed the attending farmers, who expressed willingness to cultivate the variety in the coming seasons.

Earlier, SAAO Rintu briefed farmers on the cultivation methods of BRRI Dhan 103, describing it as a high-yielding and farmer-friendly variety.

A large number of farmers, invited guests and media representatives were present at the event.

Speaking to BSS, Gobindaganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Mehedi Hasan said the programme aimed to encourage farmers by demonstrating the production potential of BRRI Dhan 103, hoping to expand its cultivation in future seasons.
