Bus helper dies in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, April 2, 2026 (BSS) - A 28-year-old bus helper was killed after falling from a moving passenger bus in Sadar upazila of the district last night.

The deceased was identified as Md. Raju, son of Md. Sakhaet Ullah, a resident of Kamla Bari in Laxminarayanpur village under Durgapur union in Begumganj upazila.

The accident occurred around 9:15 pm near the Income Tax Office adjacent to Maijdi Bazar along the Maijdi-Chowmuhani highway.

According to eyewitnesses, a bus of Sugandha Paribahan was traveling from Begumganj towards Maijdi when Raju suddenly fell onto the road from the moving vehicle.

He sustained critical injuries after being run over by the bus. He was rushed to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Officer-in-Charge of Chandraganj Highway Police Station, Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan, said preliminary findings suggest that Raju may have accidentally fallen from the bus and the accident took place.

Police said exact cause of the incident yet to be ascertained. 

Legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
