KHULNA, Nov 15, 2025 (BSS)- Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Abu Momtaz Ziad Uddin Ahmed has said if road accidents cannot be prevented, the country’s efforts to build skilled human resources will be frustrated.
“About 32 percent victims of road accidents are the people of 5 to 29 year age group, who are future potential of the nation.
But due to unexpected deaths and injuries on roads, we are losing that potential,” he said.
BRTA chairman said this while distributing cheques of compensation among the victim of road accidents at the Khulna Circuit House.
Compensation cheques were handed over to families of road accident victims in Khulna and Bagerhat districts.
Khulna Additional Deputy Magistrate Dipankar Das presided over the programme while it was conducted by BRTA Khulna Divisional Director Md Ziaur Rahman.
Khulna District Motor Bus Owners’ Association General Secretary Robiul Islam, Joint Secretary Babul Hossain, Yasin Molla and Khulna Motor Workers’ Union President Zahid Khan spoke, among others, on the occasion. Fazlul Haque Moni spoke on behalf of the victim families.
At the ceremony, cheques of Taka 5 lakh were handed over to each victim family.
The BRTA chairman said that any single group or individual cannot be blamed for any road accident.
Weak road infrastructure, unskilled drivers, careless pedestrians and violation of traffic laws altogether contribute to road accidents. Everyone must remain alert and responsible,” he added.
Highlighting initiatives taken for skill development of the drivers, he said the process of creating master trainers has already begun who will train up the professional drivers.
Drivers and helpers of public transports will undergo systematic training soon to build them as skilled workforce.
He urged the victim families to submit applications for compensation within 30 days of an accident on the BRTA prescribed form.
