Thousands gather at janaza of ex-MP Matiar Rahman Talukder

BARGUNA, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS) – Two separate namaz-e-janazas of former Member of Parliament (MP) from the Barguna-3 constituency, Matiar Rahman Talukder, 78, were held today in Taltoli and Amtoli upazilas of the district.

Thousands of people, including central leaders and activists of the BNP, attended the janazas.

Matiar Rahman Talukder, former MP of Barguna-3 (Amtali–Taltoli), former general secretary of the Barguna District BNP and former chairman of the Barguna District Council, passed away on November 17 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.

As his children live in the United States, the burial procedures began after their arrival from abroad.

The first janaza was held on Wednesday at 2 pm in front of the BNP central office. Later, his body was taken by helicopter to Taltoli upazila, where his second janaza was held at 10 am today at the Taltoli Government Model Secondary School ground. Afterwards, his third namaz-e-janaza was held at the Amtali Central Eidgah. He was later laid to rest at the family graveyard.

He was also a BNP nomination aspirant for the upcoming 13th national election from the Barguna-1 constituency.
