Child killed as wall collapses during earthquake in Narayanganj

NARAYANGANJ, Nov 21, 2025 (BSS) - A one-year-old child was killed when a wall collapsed during today's earthquake at Golakanda Union under Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj district.

The deceased was identified as Fatema, daughter of Abdul Haque of Islam Bagh area. Fatema's mother, Kulsum Begum, 30, and a neighbor, Jesmin Begum, 35, were also injured in the incident.

Locals and eyewitnesses said Kulsum Begum lives in a rented house in Islam Bagh with her two children. When the earthquake struck, she panicked and rushed outside carrying Fatema. 

At the same time, their neighbor Jesmin Begum also came out and stood on the road. A wall beside the street collapsed, and Fatema died on the spot from the impact of falling bricks. 

The injured were rescued by locals and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Mokhlesur Rahman, inspector of Bhulta Police Outpost, said police visited the site after receiving the report. 

He confirmed that Fatema died instantly when the wall collapsed. Her mother and neighbor sustained serious injuries and were taken to DMCH for treatment.
