DHAKA, April 1, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 175 Bangladeshi migrants were
repatriated from Libya today with government support and assistance from
international agencies.
The returnees were brought back at 6:25 am on a Buraq Air flight with support
from the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the
Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Libyan authorities
and the International Organization for Migration, said a foreign ministry's
press release here.
Of them, 113 were detained at the Tajoura detention centre in Tripoli and 62
at the Ganfuda detention centre in Benghazi.
Most of the returnees had reportedly travelled to Libya irregularly, lured by
human traffickers while attempting to migrate to Europe by sea. Many alleged
they had faced abduction and abuse during their stay.
Officials from the relevant ministries and the IOM received them at the
airport and encouraged them to share their experiences to raise public
awareness.
The IOM provided returnees with travel allowances, food assistance, primary
healthcare and temporary shelter where needed.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to repatriate Bangladeshi nationals
detained in different centres in Libya.
