Smuggled goods worth Tk 1.5 crore seized in Sunamganj

SUNAMGANJ, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive has seized Indian smuggled goods worth Taka 1.5 crore from Moinpur area in Sadar upazila here in the early hours of today.

Based on intelligence information, a task force team conducted a raid in the area and recovered the goods including 1,229 pieces of Indian sarees, 208 pieces of three-pieces and 195 pieces of cosmetics from an abandoned house and an abandoned boat in the Surma River.
 
Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Swad Sattar Chowdhury , Naib Subedar Md. Rafiqul Islam, along with 19 BGB and 4 police members, participated in the operation. 
 
Sunamganj BGB-28 Battalion Commander Lt. Col. AKM Zakaria Qadir PSC said Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will continue intensified operational and intelligence activities along both land and river routes in Sunamganj to strengthen border security and curb smuggling.
 
He said the enhanced operations are being carried out under directives from higher headquarters and the surveillance across the border area has been increased to deter illegal cross-border activities.
