
SHERPUR, Nov 25, 2025 (BSS) - Sadar upazila administration seized 248 sacks of rice illegally stored in a shop at Sheikhhati market of Sherpur municipal town on Tuesday afternoon.
The operation was conducted around 3 pm following a tip-off received by the upazila administration.
Nazrul Islam, 35, a TCB dealer and son of the late Ekabbar Haji of Ganoi Baruapara village in Pakuria union, was arrested in connection with the incident.
According to police, Nazrul Islam had been distributing Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) products in the Sheikhhati market area for a long time.
However, instead of supplying the allocated rice to customers, he had allegedly been stockpiling it at a shop named Jannat Enterprise.
Acting on the confidential information, a team lead by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Abdullah Al Mahmud Bhuiyan conducted a raid in the area and recovered approximately 7.5 tons of rice packed in 248 sacks. The seized rice was later transported to the Sherpur Sadar Police Station.
Sherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Zubaidul Alam confirmed the arrest of the TCB dealer, stating that further legal action is underway pending investigation.
