Legal aid needs integrated efforts to reach people

RAJSHAHI, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a meeting here yesterday said integrated efforts of all stakeholders are crucial to reach legal aid to the poor and distressed people.

In view of this they called on legal practitioners, law enforcing agencies and relevant stakeholders to work together.

Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) organized the meeting for establishment of effective referral system between the district-level government and non-government organizations.

General Secretary of local lawyers association Zamshed Ali chaired the meeting held at Boalia Club in the city. BLAST Rajshahi unit coordinator advocate Samina Begum moderated the discussion.

Director of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association Advocate Dil Sitara Chuni, Manager of Rajshahi CRP Soma Begum, Legal Officer of One Stop Crisis Centre Meherun Nessa, President of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad Rajshahi district unit Kolpona Roy and Chief Executive Officer of Anagrasar Samaj Unnayan Sangstha Raj Kumar Saon also spoke on the occasion.
 
Emphasizing that all citizens are equal before the law, the speakers said access to legal support should be guaranteed for everyone, particularly the marginalized.

They noted that ensuring legal aid for underprivileged people requires not only from the judiciary but also all other parties in a comprehensive and collaborative approach.
