
RANGPUR, Jan 2, 2026 (BSS) - On the second day of the scrutiny of nomination
papers for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections, the nomination papers
of six candidates out of the 20 submitted in two Rangpur constituencies were
declared cancelled today.
Of them, nomination papers of three cadidates were declared invalid in each
of Rangpur-3 and Rangpur-4 constituencies.
Rangpur Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Enamul Ahsan
declared the said nomination papers cancelled at his conference room on
Friday afternoon.
The candidacies of the remaining fourteen people, with seven each, contesting
in Rangpur-3 (Rangpur Sadar and City) and Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha-Kawnia)
constituencies were declared valid.
Earlier, the scrutiny of submitted nomination papers for Rangpur-3 and
Rangpur-4 constituencies was held in the morning and afternoon today
respectively.
The cancelled three candidates in Rangpur-3 constituency are Independent Rita
Rahman, BSD (Marxist)'s Anwar Hossain Bablu and Khelafat Majlis's Touhidur
Rahman Mondal.
The cancelled three candidates in Rangpur-4 constituency are Jatiya Party's
(Anis-Ruhul) Md Abdus Salam, Independent Zainul Abedin and Independent Shah
Alam Bashar.
During the scrutiny, the nomination papers of seven candidates each of
Rangpur-3 and Rangpur-4 constituencies were declared valid.
The seven valid candidates for Rangpur-3 constituency are BNP's Md
Shamsuzzaman Samu, Jamaat's Professor Mahbubar Rahman Belal, Islami Andolan
Bangladesh's Amiruzzaman Piyal, Jatiya Party's Golam Mohammad Quader,
independent candidate Anwara Islam Rani of the third gender, BSD's Abdul
Quddus and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis's Nur Alam Siddique.
The seven legitimate candidates for Rangpur-4 constituency are BNP's Emdadul
Haque Bhorsa, NCP's Akhter Hossen, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Moulana
Muhammad Zahid Hasan, Jatiya Party's Abu Naser Shah Mohammad Mahbubar Rahman,
BSD (Marxist) Pragati Barman Toma, Bangladesh Congress's Ujjwal Chandra Roy
and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis's Md Abu Saha.
In this regard, Rangpur Returning Officer Mohammad Enamul Ahsan said that as
per the rules, the cancelled candidates can appeal to the Election Commission
to regain the validity of their candidacies.
The scrutiny of the submitted nomination papers for Rangpur-5 (Mithapukur)
constituency and Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituency will be held on Saturday in
the morning and in the afternoon respectively.
Earlier, the scrutiny of the submitted nomination papers for Rangpur-1 and
Rangpur-2 constituencies were held on Thursday when the nomination papers of
Jatiya Party candidate Barrister Manjum Ali were declared cancelled.
The submitted nomination papers of eight candidates for Rangpur-1
constituency and five candidates for Rangpur-2 constituency were declared
valid that day.
