BARGUNA, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS) - At least four houses were completely gutted in a fire in the Green Road area of the district town last night, leaving several families homeless and destitute.

The fire broke out around 8.30 pm in a house and rapidly spread to adjacent houses, according to local sources.

Upon being informed, a unit of the Fire Service rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire after nearly two hours of effort. However, by then, all household belongings-including furniture, cash, gold ornaments, and important documents-had been burnt to ashes.

During the incident, a man sustained serious burn injuries following a gas cylinder explosion. The injured person was rescued in critical condition and admitted to a local hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit, a fire service official said.

Local authorities have assured that further investigation is underway and that steps will be taken to provide assistance to the affected families.
