KHULNA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - The body of a schoolboy, who had been missing since Friday afternoon, was recovered from the Rupsha River this morning.

The victim was identified as Rafi, a Class-IV student of Khulna Zilla School. He was the son of Md Rafiq Sheikh, a resident of Dr Altaf Ali Lane on Rupsha Stand Road in the city.

The body was recovered around 8:30am near the Rupsha ferry ghat.

According to family members, Rafi left home on Friday afternoon, telling them he was going to offer Asr prayer, but did not return.

Al Amin, Rafi's maternal uncle, said Rafi fell into the Rupsha River from a timber-laden trawler while roaming with his friends.

Despite continuous efforts, the body could not be recovered until this morning.

Later, locals spotted the child's body floating midstream near the railway bridge area under Labanchara police station. After being informed, family members recovered the body.

Rupsha Naval Outpost In-Charge Abul Khayer confirmed the incident.
