
DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS)- The Detective Branch (DB) of police has uncovered a major Telegram-based fraud ring, recovering 51,251 SIM cards of various mobile operators, 51 mobile phones and 21 illegal VoIP gateways.
Eight members of the syndicate, including five Chinese nationals, have been arrested in coordinated raids conducted in Bashundhara and Uttara Paschim Thana areas of the capital.
The arrested individuals are: Chen Ling Feng, Zeng Cong, Zeng Changqiang, Wen Xian Qiu, Huang Zheng Xiang, Md. Zakaria, 26, Niaz Masum, 20, and Kamrul Hasan alias Hasan Joy, 38.
The details of the operation were disclosed during a briefing by Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar, DC-Cyber (Uttar), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The Web Based Crime Investigation Team of the DB-Cyber and Special Crime (North) Division launched an investigation following multiple complaints received by DMP, the DB Cyber Support Center and the DB-Cyber and Special Crime (North) Division regarding online job fraud, Telegram group scams and other digital frauds.
After monitoring the activities of the fraud ring, DB conducted a raid in the Bashundhara Residential Area under Bhatara Police Station on Thursday (January 7).
During the operation, Niaz Masum and Kamrul Hasan alias Hasan Joy were arrested.
They seized 14 VoIP gateway devices, 51,067 SIM cards of different operators, four mobile phones, two CPUs and one laptop from their possession.
Further investigation revealed the existence of additional fraud networks operating in different parts of the capital. In continuation of the operation, DB arrested six more individuals, including five foreign nationals, from Sector 09 under Uttara Paschim Police Station on Monday (January 12).
During this raid, seven illegal VoIP gateways, 47 mobile phones of various brands, 184 SIM cards and five laptops were seized.
DB Cyber sources said the fraudsters used various tactics to cheat people, including offering fake online jobs, luring victims with promises of high-profit investments, and advertising daily necessities at unrealistically low prices through Telegram and other online platforms.
The arrested Niaz Masum and Hasan Joy have already been produced before the court, while legal proceedings against the remaining accused are underway.
