RANGPUR, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the prime accused in the rape of a Rangpur schoolgirl from in front of Shaheed Smriti School and College under Kafrul police station in Dhaka on Monday evening.

The arrestee was identified as Md Ariful Islam, 20, Mithapukur police station in Rangpur district, said a press release issued here today.

Citing the statement of the complainant, the release said the victim and the accused, both from the same village, were known to each other.

The accused allegedly took the victim to his house by deception on December 27, 2025.

He raped her at around 1:30am on December 28, 2025.

The victim filed a rape case with Mithapukur police station on December 31, 2025.

Later, RAB-13, in coordination with other law-enforcement agencies, launched an operation to arrest the absconding accused.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of RAB-13 and RAB-2’s Mohammadpur Camp arrested Md Ariful Islam from in front of Shaheed Smriti School and College under Kafrul police station in Dhaka at 6:10pm on Monday.

The arrested accused has been handed over to Mithapukur police station in Rangpur for further legal action, the release added.
