German Ambassador pays courtesy call on Jamaat Ameer

DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - The German ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr Rdiger Lotz, held a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman at the party's Basundhara office this morning.

The meeting, held at 9:00 am, took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, according to a press release.

During the discussion, the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election was described as very important for Bangladesh. The Jamaat Ameer sought Germany's cooperation and necessary technical assistance to ensure that the election is held in a free, fair and credible manner.

The meeting also discussed the protection of women's rights in Bangladesh, enhancement of professional skills in the workplace and overall development of women, with an expectation of continued German support in these areas.

Both sides held constructive discussions on establishing sustainable democracy in Bangladesh and further strengthening democratic institutions. They also expressed optimism that bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Germany would expand further in the future.

Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Chief Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair and the party's Foreign Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Mahamudul Hasan were present at the meeting.

Political and Press Officer of the German Embassy Sharlina Nuzhat Kabir also attended the meeting.
