Blankets distributed among 200 cold-hit people in Kurigram

KURIGRAM, Jan 17, 2026 (BSS) - In a heartfelt gesture of support, the 
Kurigram District Char Development Committee distributed blankets to 200 
cold-stricken and vulnerable residents of the Hansar Par area on the banks of 
the Teesta River in Nazim Khan Union of Rajarhat upazila.

The distribution took place on Saturday afternoon, led by Professor Shafiqul 
Islam Bebu, president of the District Char Development Committee and Senior 
Joint Convener of Kurigram District BNP. 

Several other leaders of the organisation, including Vice President Principal 
Khaja Sharif Uddin Ahmed Rintu, Principal Shah Alam, Joint General Secretary 
Abdul Akher and Saiful Islam Badal were present, among others.

Speaking at the event, Professor Bebu highlighted the ongoing hardships faced 
by local communities, stating that nearly 200,000 people living on both banks 
of the Teesta River are experiencing extreme difficulties due to river 
erosion. 

He urged the government to take immediate and effective measures to prevent 
further erosion and protect the affected populations.
