RAJSHAHI, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered two foreign-made pistols, four magazines, and eight rounds of ammunition from a Padma River's char area in the district on Sunday night.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the paramilitary force carried out the operation around 11:30pm at the bordering area under Katakhali Police Station in the metropolis, a BGB press release said here last night.

BGB sources said the firearms and ammunition were recovered from a bag buried underground. The two foreign pistols, four magazines, and eight rounds of ammunition were found wrapped in cloth. The firearms have been handed over to Kata Khali Police Station for legal action.

BGB stated that ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, it is strengthening intelligence activities and maintaining strict surveillance in border areas to ensure that illegal arms, ammunition, and explosive materials do not enter Bangladesh, to keep the country's law and order situation stable.
