Cleanliness drive begins in Nabaganga River

JHENAIDAH, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) - A three-day cleanliness drive began today in the Nabaganga River in the district with the aim of preserving environmental balance and reviving the river. 

Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Masud inaugurated the drive at 9:30 am at Castle Bridge of the district town.

Among others, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department Rathindranath Roy, Executive Engineer of Jhenaidah Water Development Board Ranjan Kumar Das, Assistant District Magistrate (ICT) Nirmal Kanti Talukder, Assistant Magistrate Rima Islam, Assistant Director of the District Environment Department Muntasir Rahman, President of Jhenaidah Press Club Asif Iqbal Makhon and General Secretary Aminul Islam Liton were present at the event.

The Nabaganga River cleaning campaign will continue until Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said "If the river survives, nature and the environment will remain balanced. We have initially started this campaign to make the Nabaganga River pollution-free".

He added that similar cleanliness drives would be carried out in other rivers of the district in phases. Efforts are also underway to remove illegal structures built along both banks of the river, he added.
