MUNSHIGANJ, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) - The body of a Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) student, who went missing while bathing in the Padma River at Mawa, was recovered on Monday, two days after the incident.

The deceased was identified as Naim, 22, a student of the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department of MIST. He was the son of A. Raihan, a resident of Lalpur upazila in Natore district.

According to Srinagar Fire Station Officer Dewan Amjad Hossain, Naim’s body was recovered from the riverbed around 500 feet north of Pillar No. 4 of the Padma Bridge on Monday afternoon.

On January 31, a group of 18 students from Level-2 of the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department visited the Mawa Ghat area. During the visit, Naim and three of his friends went to the Padma River for taking bathe, when Naim went missing after being swept away by the current. The other two students were rescued by their friends using a boat.

Following the incident, divers from the Fire Service and Coast Guard launched a joint rescue operation in the river.

Mohammad Ilias, in-charge of the Mawa Naval Police Station, said the body was recovered after two days of search and later handed over to the family.
