
RAJSHAHI, Feb 6, 2026 (BSS) - The Safe Food Court has fined three hotels and restaurants Tk 5 lakh here for keeping unhygienic environment and using sub-standard ingredients in food items.
A team led by Judge Ashikur Rahman of Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2 and assisted by Safe Food Officer Yamin Hossain from the Rajshahi Metropolitan Office of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority conducted the drive in the C&B intersection and Laxmipur intersection in the city and fined the shops on Thursday afternoon. Officials from BSTI were also present.
During the inspection, Nanking Darbar Hall Restaurant at the C&B intersection was fined Tk one lakh for using expired burnt oil, fungus-infested wooden cutting boards, substandard chili powder, keeping open dustbins, maintaining an unhygienic kitchen, and failing to discard unlabeled products.
At the same location, Rana Sweet Shop was found to have expired sour yogurt and sauce, burnt oil, spoiled lentils and jaggery, and rotten sweets.
The establishment was also fined Tk one lakh for failing to discard unlabeled products.
At Laxmipur intersection, Tripti Hotel and Restaurant was fined Tk three lakh through summary trial for keeping substandard lentils and sauce, burnt oil, rotten peanuts, spoiled milk cream, open dustbins, non-iodized salt, and for failing to discard unlabeled products.
Meanwhile, the court ordered a regular case to be filed against another establishment for possessing expired food items, substandard lentils and sauce, burnt oil, storing raw and cooked food together in the same refrigerator, keeping open dustbins, using non-iodized salt, using kewra water, and failing to discard unlabeled products.
Officials said such operations will continue to ensure food safety.
The court has ordered the filing of a regular case against another hotel.
