Politics of courtesy beyond the ballot battle in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Feb 14, 2026 (BSS)- Following a competitive contest in the 13th National Parliament Election in Rajshahi-3 (Paba-Mohanpur), an exemplary instance of cordial and respectful politics has been set.

After the heat of the election subsided, both the winning and the defeated candidates demonstrated a bright example of democratic spirit by exchanging greetings.
 
The victorious BNP-nominated candidate, Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, was warmly congratulated with flowers by his rival candidate, Professor Abul Kalam Azad of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

The exchange of greetings took place today (Saturday) at Professor Azad’s residence in Adaria Para of Harggram Union. 

During the meeting, the two leaders shared sweets and held a brief discussion in a friendly atmosphere.
 
Such courteous conduct following an electoral contest is being regarded as a new message of political harmony in Rajshahi-3.

Local residents hope that, based on mutual respect and cooperation, a new horizon of sustainable development will be opened in the constituency.
 
On the occasion, Jamaat leader Professor Abul Kalam Azad said, “We have stood together in movements and struggles for democratic rights. There will always be victory and defeat in elections. Therefore, I will extend my full cooperation for the development of Rajshahi-3, Insha’Allah.”
 
The newly elected BNP Member of Parliament, Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, said, “Elections are a festival of democracy. I want to work for the development of Rajshahi-3 with everyone’s opinions and cooperation.”
 
He further added, “Rajshahi-3 will be developed in line with the district and metropolitan model. I want to move development activities forward by utilizing his experience. Under the guidance of BNP Chairman  Tarique Rahman, we will work together to rebuild the future Bangladesh.”
 
Local political leaders saw the event as a reflection of positive political culture. Abdur Razzaq, Member Secretary of the Paba Upazila BNP, said, “Courtesy and empathy in politics strengthen democracy. Such exchanges of greetings carry a message of political harmony.”
 
It is worth noting that a total of six candidates contested in Rajshahi-3. Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, contesting with the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol, won with 176,318 votes. His nearest rival, Professor Abul Kalam Azad, contesting with the “Scales” symbol, received 137,927 votes.
