3 jailed for illegal sand extraction in Netrokona

NETROKONA, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court today sentenced three persons to two months' imprisonment each for illegal sand extraction in Kalmakanda upazila of the district. 

The court, led by Executive Magistrate and Kalmakanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Masudur Rahman, also seized three hand-trolleys carrying 150 cubic feet of sand.

The convicts were identified as Moyna Mia, 45, Md. Abdul Hai, 30, and Md. Zakir Hossain, 25, all residents of Kalmakanda Sadar union.

According to court sources, acting on a tip-off, the upazila administration conducted a drive in the Kalaikandi area under Rongchhati union in the morning and arrested the three on the spot for sand extraction and transportation in violation of the Balumahal and Soil Management Act.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalmakanda Police Station Md. Siddik Hossain said the convicts were sent to Netrokona District Jail in the afternoon.

The UNO said such drives would continue in the public interest.
