3,385 tonnes of VGF rice allocated for Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, March 4, 2026 (BSS) - The government has allocated 3,385 metric tonnes of rice for distressed and ultra-poor people of the district ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme. 

Sources at the district relief and rehabilitation office said the rice would be distributed among 3,38,560 VGF cardholders in all seven upazilas and four pourashavas of the district before the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

Of the total allocation, 26,212 cards were allotted for Fulchhari upazila, 71,256 for Sundarganj upazila, 40,475 for Shaghata upazila, 66,529 for Gobindaganj upazila, 41,116 for Sadullapur upazila, 57,946 for Sadar upazila and 34,526 for Palashbari upazila.

In addition, 4,621 cards were allocated for Gaibandha Pourashava and 4,621 for Gobindaganj Pourashava, 3,081 for Sundarganj Pourashava and 1,540 for Palashbari Pourashava.

Assistant Commissioner and Acting District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Juwel Miah said each beneficiary would receive 10 kilograms of rice to help them celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals for Muslims, without facing food hardship.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Masuder Rahman told BSS that instructions were given to the upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) and project implementation officers (PIOs) to ensure smooth and timely distribution of the rice among beneficiaries.

Sundarganj UNO Effat Jahan Tuli and PIO Md Moshiar Rahman said as per the directives of the DC necessary measures were taken to distribute the VGF rice to the beneficiaries of the upazila before Eid festival without any criticism.
