
DHAKA, March 4, 2026 (BSS) - Wari Police Station has arrested four individuals in connection with the shooting and wounding of a Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) inspector during an anti-drug operation in the Swamibag area of the capital.
The arrested have been identified as Syed Jisan Ahmed (29), Syed Hasibul Hasan alias Piyas (22), Omar Faruk Sayem (21), and Solaiman Hossain Chowdhury (25).
Police recovered two pistols, one revolver, two magazines, 23 rounds of live ammunition, five spent bullet shells, and a motorcycle from their possession.
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Telebur Rahman confirmed their arrest and seizure.
According to police sources, the incident took place around 12:05 pm on Monday (March 2) near Sayedabad Railgate under Dhaka South City Corporation in Swamibag.
A team from DNC was conducting a drive against illegal narcotics when three to four unidentified miscreants opened fire, shooting Inspector Siddiqur Rahman in the leg before fleeing the scene.
A regular case was filed with Wari Police Station following the incident.
Police said that immediately after receiving news of the shooting, officers pursued the suspects along their escape route.
During the chase, the suspects abandoned a revolver loaded with four rounds of bullets. Five spent shells used in the attack were also recovered from the scene.
Acting on secret information the following day (March 3), police conducted raids in different areas and arrested Syed Jisan Ahmed, Syed Hasibul Hasan alias Piyas, and Omar Faruk Sayem.
A pistol, two magazines, and 16 rounds of bullets used in the incident were seized from them.
Based on information provided by the three detainees, police carried out another raid and arrested Solaiman Hossain Chowdhury, recovering an additional pistol and three rounds of ammunition.
Police confirmed that two regular cases have been filed in connection with the incident, with another case currently under process.
During initial interrogation, the arrested individuals reportedly confessed to their involvement in the attack.
Legal proceedings are underway against them.
