DHAKA, Mar 4, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Safiqul Islam Khan today laid special emphasis on strengthening mosquito control, making waste management more dynamic and taking advance preparations to tackle waterlogging in the upcoming monsoon season.
He gave the directives at a meeting with regional executive officers at the administrator’s conference room at Nagar Bhaban.
The administrator said alongside the corporation’s regular activities, mosquito eradication, waste removal and waterlogging control must be given top priority for the comfort of city dwellers. He called for coordinated initiatives to build Dhaka as a clean and green city.
He instructed that the mosquito control drives conducted three times daily must be properly supervised on the ground to ensure effective implementation. He also stressed close monitoring to ensure that waste is not dumped indiscriminately, and drains and canals are cleaned regularly.
Addressing the regional executive officers, Safiqul Islam said they cannot remain confined only to official desk work. They must be present in the field at specified times every day, identify problems in their respective areas and take effective measures for their quick resolution. He also asked them to ensure that DNCC employees are properly discharging their duties.
Directing that canals and drains must be kept clean regularly, the administrator said if canals remain functional and clean, mosquito breeding will decrease. At the same time, waterlogging during the monsoon will be largely brought under control.
He also instructed officials to identify areas prone to waterlogging, including Airport Road and Mirpur Road, and take advance preparations accordingly.
Officials concerned were present at the meeting. They assured that necessary steps would be taken to implement the directives.
